Mitch Martin is a descendant of some of the earliest pioneers of the North Arkansas Ozarks region. He grew up on a small farm in Searcy County only a few miles from the scenic Buffalo National River. Hunting and fishing were not only a recreation but also a necessary part of everyday life. Mitch spent his early years hunting squirrels and rabbits with his .22 rifle and his dog, Smokey. He learned to love the Buffalo River while fishing and hunting with his Uncle Charley Crow, a Choctaw Indian who made his living by farming with a team of mules, along with the sale of raccoon skins and wild ginseng root.

Mitch attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. He graduated with a degree in Wildlife Conservation and a ROTC commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. For the past twenty years he has worked in the financial services industry. He is the owner of a successful financial services firm as well as an insurance agency in Washington, Missouri. Mitch and his wife, Candi, reside in Washington, and they have two grown children, and they are very proud grandparents. Mitch loves hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, and kayaking, especially on the Buffalo River.
